ODT Workshops

ODT – Out Door Training – is a challenging outdoor activity for the development of social, managerial and leadership skills.

In the alpaca farm you have the rare opportunity of meeting the friendly and delicate wooly alpacas and llamas, and create a special experience of team bondage and learning. The leading and communication with the alpacas and llamas brings the participants for insights that are only possible in that type of working environment.

Activities that can take place in the farm:

• Separation of an alpaca herd by colors

• Leading llamas through an obstacle course

• Solving a riddle script

• Navigating with llamas in desert terrain

• Reflective discussion - after action review

 

1. Separation of an alpaca herd by colors

In a fenced area where 90 alpacas are kept the participants are required to separate the herd by colors. In this task the group will need to deal with the challenges of leading a herd of animals and will need to find creative ways of using the given area within the limitation of time and facilities. The assignment will give expression and will enable to study the groups' leadership, decision making procedures, affective time usage and more.

2. Leading llamas through an obstacle course

The group will be divided into two or more teams. In every team two or three pairs. The task is to lead the llamas through an obstacle course designed and built here in the farm. It is a competition between the two teams and it examines the way of suiting a leader (human) to the led (animal) and its effect on the group functioning. Other qualities that will be studied are cooperation, communication, working under pressure, coping with competitive conditions and more.

3. Solving a riddle script

The group will be divided into two teams who will compete on the solving of the riddle. The implementation of the solution will be done in the farm using mules and will require original thinking, personal leadership, cooperation and more.

4. Navigating with llamas in desert terrain

The task is divided into three parts: In the first part the members will need to organize equipment for a given purpose and load it on our llamas while taking into consideration time, weight and capacity. In the second part the team members will navigate in the desert terrain while leading an equipped llama, using maps and completing the navigation in the given time limit. In the third part the team members will arrive at a point where certain tasks will challenge them to completion of the task.  This can be held as competition between different teams.

*It is recommended to combine this mission with breakfast/lunch/dinner.

Reflective discussion - after action review

With the completion of every task, and again at the end of the general mission, there will be a reflective discussion, led by the farm's staff. The reflective discussion enables the participants to study the personal and team work and to conclude the things that came up in a way that will enhance the participants' functioning in their work place and personal life, as well as their ability to acquire new skills. The discussion can be given by or in cooperation with a moderator from/ assigned by the company participating in the ODT.
