The Ramon crater sites
The Ramon crater is the largest crater in the Israeli Negev. The
crater is worldly known for it’s magnificent landscapes and unique
geological phenomena. Sand dunes crossed by dykes millions of years old,
colored sands, founting springs, canyons, cliffs and even the carpentry-
a special site where sand and basalt prisms create
similar settings to that of a carpentry workshop.

The visitors center is a great entrance gate to the Ramon Nature
Reserve. In the visitors center there is a spectacular light and sound
show about the Negev highlands and it’s
many sites.. It is also a tourist information where you can get
recommendations for treks, trails, weather and sites of all sorts. In

In Hai Ramon (Ramon wildlife) are shown 40 different species of small
desert wildlife (reptiles,
rodents and more) which are usually hidden from the eyes of the ordinary
passerby. You can see them up closely and learn about their special
physiological systems which enable them to survive and procreate in the
harsh desert conditions. For more information:

A sand hill with dark rocks at the top which resemble carved logs
scattered on a carpentry floor.
A unique geological phenomena which definitely deserves a visit.
The Ammonite Wall
A limestone wall scattered with ammonites- large shell fossils. The
ammonites are sea creatures who were extinct millions of years ago.

The desert can be crossed in the traditional way- on a camel back, a
horse or a donkey. The ride can be an hour or longer.

The ancient city of Avedat
was used as a main city on the scent route between Yemen and
Gaza. It provided the travelers with many facilities, some still can be
viewed today- the big winery, the wine cells, the storehouses and more.

The biggest spring in the area of Sde Boker. Around the site are many
ibexes, monk caves, a flowing water fall (!) and large, impressive
poplar trees.

An impressive walking trail, beginning in a marlstone waterhole dug
by the Nabateans over 2000 years ago, and finishing in the access road
to the Avedat National Park. During the walk you can observe species of
desert Botany, desert wildlife and varied geological formations. The
walk is recommended on full moons.
A fascinating walking trail where you can see water holes, wells and
granaries (grain elevators) over 3000 years old. Also on site are desert
botanical species and ancient agricultural remnants.
The western boarder road (road no. 10) is 180 km long and is a scenic
road watching over the Sinai peninsula and the central Negev highlands.
The road starts in the south at Sayarim junction (the road intersects
with road no. 12), and continues via Harif Mountain, Nitzana, Nitzana
archeological site, Nitzana boarder crossing, and ends in the Eshkol
settlements in the north.
The
Negev Highlands are a heaven for adventurists. The varied and
beautiful cliffs are Israel’s top rock climbing and abseiling sites.
There are many attractive 4x4 wheel drive routes to choose from,
mountain bike trails (options for hiring in the area), buggy trips
and more. For the purpose of keeping the landscapes unspoiled it is
required to consult at the visitors center of the national parks
organization before starting your trip.
